High School Musical 2: 2-Disc Deluxe Dance Edition

A re-release of the DVD titled High School Musical 2: 2-Disc Deluxe Dance Edition will be released along with the re-release of the soundtrack. The release date of the DVD is currently unknown but is rumored to be on August 15, 2008 the same day DVDs of Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert and Camp Rock will be released.

High School Musical 2 on DVD and Blu-Ray

The release date for High School Musical 2 on DVD has just been announced. High School Musical 2 will be released on DVD December 11, 2007. For the first time ever, High School Musical 2 will also be released on Blu-Ray disc. For those of you who aren’t sure, Blu-Ray disc is one of the new high definition disc formats on the market. Blu-Ray discs only play in a Blu-Ray player, so if you get the movie on Blu-Ray be sure you have a player for it (just like a DVD won’t play in a regular CD player).

The DVD is called High School Musical 2: Extended Edition and it features an all new, never before seen musical number; the song that Troy and Sharpay rehears but never perform. You’ll recognize Humuhumunukunukua’pua’a from the bonus track on the CD, performed with Ryan rather than Troy.

High School Musical: Extended Edition special features include

• Sing Along with High School Musical 2 – On screen lyrics for all the songs from the movie let viewers join in with their favorite stars

HSM The Concert DVD

If you’re a fan of High School Musical, you’ve probably already seen The Concert on the Disney Channel. The newly released DVD has what was aired on Disney and more. Fans who were able to attend the concerts live will note that it is not the whole concert, but there is more content than was previously available. When The Concert was played on the Disney Channel, they showed only the songs from High School Musical. While it isn’t the entire concert, the DVD includes some solo performances by Ashley, Corbin, Vanessa, and Drew. To add to the fun, there are interviews and other backstage videos of the cast between the songs.

The special features are great, and include a set by Jordan Pruitt who was their opener on tour. I thought that one of the best parts of the DVD in general was the “On The Road” featurette hosted by Lucas Grabeel.

For a fan of High School Musical, this DVD is really worth getting. The music is great! I love the full cast version of Start of Something New at the beginning, and I think they all look great and sound even better than they did in the movie.
